The Oakbrook Academy of Music & Art was designed to teach the appropriate music and arts skills that are necessary for the student to succeed at a higher level of learning in a structured environment. Our philosophy is to make learning so exciting that it will be enjoyed to the fullest. Our goal is to give each student a quality education that will ultimately build self-confidence, create a love for the arts, and give them the ability to play an instrument artistically, sing a song , or act out a part in a theatrical production. We offer each student new experiences and new challenges. Our teaching staff is of the highest caliber in their field of expertise both in teaching and performance. Our curriculum correlates to many of the top pedagogy departments of the area's finest universities. Beginning with our renown pre-school piano program, Keyboard Kids, our curriculum culminates with a student prepared for entrance into any college music department. Our vocal studies prepare students for musical theater as well as college entrance auditions. Most of our vocal students get lead roles in their school musical productions. At the end of each term students perform in music juries to help monitor progress and prepare them for college juries and auditions. This unique part of our program continues to separate us from other music schools. Formal Fall and Spring recitals and various competition-opportunities gives the Oakbrook Academy student the performance experience and musical accomplishments they seek. We encourage all students of any age and level to participate in these events. Our drama programs beginning with pantomime/ improvisation continues through intermediate and advanced levels of dramatic study - aimed at preparing students for their high school drama programs and beyond! On stage performance experience and theatrical field trips make this program an exciting addition to the Oakbrook Academy.

Since birth, I have always had a love of music, dance, and singing. In 2005, I went to my first drum circle and fell in love with drumming and the primal rhythm. Not long after, I purchased my first djembe and started one-on-one lessons with Nighthawk, a nationally known drummer. My studies have expanded to include the doumbek, frame drum, djun djuns and other small percussion. From Spring of 2007 until July 2009 I played with the band called Safira Tribal Fusion (STF). After STF broke up, I joined with some of the ladies from STF and formed a new group. In September 2009 we officially named ourselfs J.A.N.E. Our tag line is 'Join A Natural Evolution!' Currently we are in the beginning stages of the music process and hope to be out in the community by spring of 2010. You may wonder, where the ''Bodie'' came from. My very good friend Cyndy gave me the nickname of ''Bodie'' - (pronounced Bo-dee) - because she says the rhythm I play during Fanga on the djuns is the famous ''Bo-Diddley'' rhythm; and I play it sooooo funky. Thanks Cyndy! The latest news, on October 3, 2009 I was honored to play at the Women Taking Care of the World Conference & Concert at the Mahaffey Theater St. Petersburg, Florida. It was an experiance that greatly impacted me as a drummer. I was blessed to meet and perform with Christine Stevens and made a new friend Cheri Shanti. (I highly recommend Cheri's book, Muse Power.) The event has inpired me to learn more about the healing effects of the drum, about women drumming, and continue to learn to play by my own rhythm!
